REFLEXION – What do we want?

Interactive Installation by Heelemann & Scheibe
Festival of Lights Leipzig 2024

When resistance began to form in the GDR in 1989, people took to
the streets with banners and posters. The interactive installation REFLEXION shows these protests in the form of photographs – taken 1989/1990 in Leipzig city centre. The demands and slogans
on the banners from that time have been removed. White, blank spaces are created. 35 years later, they create space for your demands! We invite you to remember or reposition yourself.

What did we demand back then? What does 1989 mean today? What do we want to stand up for?

Express yourself! Join the conversation – here and now! You can write your
thoughts digitally on the projected banners using a touch display on the podium.
Your input will be immediately visible and is part of special
atmosphere between the past and the future in the present.

Design your banner!

All contributions are documented, the most recent ones can be seen on the second projection. They will be posted online after the Festival of Lights.

We ask everyone to show mutual respect in their dealings with one another. Any form of insult, racism, anti-Semitism, extremism and discrimination will not be tolerated, nor will calls for hatred and violence.
